The youglowgirl exfoliating glove is ideal for thoroughly exfoliating the skin before spray tanning.

When the glove comes into contact with wet skin, the exfoliating effect begins through friction. As you rub, the glove slowly becomes moist and continues to exfoliate.

It is best to scrub 12 to 24 hours before your spray tan appointment.

Important: Avoid store-bought scrubs, as they often contain oils. These can leave a film on your skin, causing your tan to become patchy. As an alternative, you can exfoliate your skin with water and sugar or salt.

Ideally, you should wax, shave, or pluck 24 hours before spray tanning. If you do it too soon, your pores may still be open, which can cause the tanning solution to settle and cause spots.

Loose, dark clothing (no leggings!)

Your skin should be clean, dry, and free of any products. Wearing oil, deodorant, perfume, or makeup before spray tanning can result in a patchy or uneven tan. These products leave a layer on the skin that prevents the tanning solution from absorbing properly.

It's best to do your manicure or pedicure 12 hours before spray tanning. Make sure you thoroughly rinse off any oils or lotions used—otherwise, the tan won't develop evenly.

In case of rain or bad weather!

It's best to go home immediately after your appointment, avoid physically strenuous activities, and give your skin time to absorb the color.

Any contact with water, whether while cleaning, cooking, or sweating while assembling furniture, can cause the fresh tan to run because the tanning solution has not yet fully absorbed.

Once you're ready for your first shower—your spray tan artist will tell you exactly when, but depending on your tan level, this can vary between 2 and 8 hours—rinse your skin with just plain water, without using shower gel or shampoo. During this phase, your tan is still fully developing, and products can cause it to be flaky or uneven.

After your second shower, you can shower as usual, but it's best to use pH-neutral or, if possible, natural products. Avoid heavily perfumed or oily skincare products like those from Rituals or Dove, as they can leave a film on your skin that causes your tan to fade unevenly.

After showering, do not rub, but pat gently – otherwise you will rub the tan away again

Moisturize thoroughly after every shower—even after your first one. Ideally, use a rich, oil- and fragrance-free moisturizer (not Dove or Rituals products) to keep your skin soft and your tan even and long-lasting.

We recommend youglowgirl products to help keep your spray tan lasting as long as possible. Our favorites:
- Body Butter for intensive moisturizing during the first 7 days – it helps keep the skin supple and promotes an even tan fading.
- Gradual Tanning Lotion from day 7 – it gradually refreshes your tan and visibly extends the durability of your spray tan.

Important: Do not use oils or scrubs as aftercare.

Drink plenty of water—even if it doesn't seem to be related to spray tanning at first glance. Well-hydrated skin stays smooth and supple longer, ensuring your tan lasts longer and fades evenly. Hydration from within is just as important as care from without!

You can exercise again after the development period (i.e. after the first shower).

Always rinse your skin briefly with clean water before and after swimming in the ocean or pool. This protects your skin from salt and chlorine, prevents rapid or patchy fading, and helps keep your spray tan even and long-lasting.

Avoid tanning oils—they dissolve the tan and cause patchiness. Instead, use a cream-based sunscreen with SPF, which protects the skin and preserves the tan longer.
