General

Our concept is unique – we have redefined spray tanning in Switzerland and continue to set new standards. From in-depth consultation to precise application and the final finish, every step is well thought out and delivers genuine best-in-class results.

Furthermore, our entire focus is exclusively on tanning. We stand out with individually mixed solutions that are perfectly tailored to you and your skin tone – for natural results that are not recognizable as a "fake tan." Today, we are the most sought-after address for self-tanner and spray tanning in Switzerland and are known for results that consciously distinguish themselves from classic standard solutions.

Spray tanning is a modern tanning technique in which a fine mist layer of a special tanning agent is evenly applied to the skin. The tanning agent contains the active ingredient DHA (dihydroxyacetone), which naturally reacts with the amino acids in the outermost layer of the skin. This reaction creates a natural tan that makes the skin look radiant and healthy.

Our spray tan usually lasts 7–10 days – depending on how hot and long you shower, how often you sweat, whether you exercise regularly, and how well you care for your skin.

The reason for this: A spray tan only colors the outermost layer of skin (dead skin cells). Since this layer naturally renews itself every 7–14 days, your tan will fade over time. This process cannot be stopped – only slowed down.

However, with the right care, you can significantly prolong your glow. Some clients even report that their spray tan remained visible for over 2 weeks.

For maximum longevity, we recommend using our Youglowgirl products to maintain your spray tan for as long as possible. Our favorites:
- Body Butter for intense moisturization during the first 7 days – it helps keep the skin supple and promotes an even fade of the tan (currently sold out)
- Gradual Tanning Lotion to use from day 7 – it gradually refreshes your tan and visibly extends the life of your spray tan by 30%.

In the first few hours after the spray tan – i.e., before the first shower – some color may transfer to clothing or bedding. This is completely normal and only affects the excess cosmetic bronzer, not the actual tan.

We therefore recommend wearing dark, loose-fitting clothing. If something does rub off, simply put it in the wash – the color can usually be washed out without any problems.

We only use high-quality tanning solutions and always apply them carefully. This way, we avoid an orange or patchy complexion. Our products ensure a natural and even tan.

However, the result can also depend on how well you prepare and care for your skin before and after the treatment. For example, if the skin was not properly prepared, no exfoliation was done, or the aftercare is not suitable, the tan can become uneven.

Also, if you don't follow the spray tan artist's instructions or use unsuitable products after tanning, the result can look patchy or orange.

Yes, of course. But a spray tan does not replace sun protection. UV rays can still affect the skin. Therefore, please remember to use creamy, not oily, sunscreen on holiday.

Yes, sensitive skin can generally react well to a spray tan, as the tan only affects the outermost layer of the skin. Since every skin is unique, we recommend a patch test beforehand for very sensitive skin or skin prone to allergies (for a patch test, please contact us by email at info@youglowgirl.ch). We apply the solution to a small area on your arm to test how your skin reacts – the patch test costs CHF 5.–.

Yes, spray tans are generally considered safe during pregnancy. Spray tanning is based on DHA (dihydroxyacetone), a sugar-based active ingredient. This reacts exclusively with the outermost layer of the skin (stratum corneum), thus providing the visible tan – without penetrating into deeper skin layers or the bloodstream. However, since every pregnancy is individual, we recommend that you consult your doctor before booking. Your personal well-being is always decisive – we have already treated many pregnant clients without any side effects.

Your tan intensity will be individually tailored to your needs – from a soft glow to a more intense bronze. We will advise you honestly so that your result always looks natural. You don't have to remember your personal mix – we'll save it for you and easily adjust it to your wishes at your next appointment.

After spray tanning, you usually see an initial effect immediately from the cosmetic bronzer, which gives your skin instant color. However, this result is only temporary and serves as a guide. The final tan develops in the hours afterward as the active ingredients react with your skin – typically within 4–8 hours, depending on the product and skin type. For an optimal, even result, it is important to follow the preparation and care instructions precisely.

Spray Tan Preparation

The youglowgirl exfoliating mitt is ideal for thoroughly exfoliating the skin before a spray tan.

When the mitt comes into contact with wet skin, the friction starts the exfoliating effect. As you rub, the mitt slowly becomes moist and continues to exfoliate.

Best used 12 to 24 hours before your spray tan appointment.

Important: The purpose of exfoliating before tanning is to remove product residues from the skin, not to add them! You should avoid store-bought scrubs from drugstores, as they often contain oils. These can leave a film on the skin, which can make the tan streaky later on. As an alternative, you can exfoliate your skin with water and sugar or salt.

ABSOLUTELY to avoid:

  • Dove
  • Rituals
  • Nivea
  • The Body Shop
  • Olay
  • Aveeno
  • Sol De Janeiro
  • Philosophy
  • ANY products with oil

It's best to wear loose, dark clothing that doesn't constrict or chafe (e.g., baggy shirts, joggers, flip-flops). Avoid tight bras, leggings, or light-colored fabrics, as these can leave marks or absorb dye.

If you have oil, deodorant, perfume, or makeup on your skin before spray tanning, it can lead to a streaky or uneven tan. These products leave a layer on the skin that prevents the tanning solution from absorbing properly. That's why your skin should be clean, dry, and product-free.

Ideally, you should wax, shave, or pluck 24-48 hours before your spray tan. If you do it too close to the appointment, your pores might still be open – this can cause the tanning solution to settle in them and create spots.

Removing hair after tanning can cause the tan to fade faster.

It's best to do your manicure or pedicure 12 hours before spray tanning. Make sure you thoroughly rinse off any oils or lotions used—otherwise, the tan won't develop evenly.

Spray Tan Treatment

During the first appointment, we'll have a detailed consultation to learn about your wishes, tanning goals, and skin type. This ensures that your tan perfectly suits you. Whether you want a particularly dark shade or just a subtle glow – we'll create the perfect, naturally sun-kissed look for you.

Yes, unfortunately that does make a difference. If old spray tan residue is still on the skin, the new tan cannot be absorbed evenly. This can lead to patchy areas or an uneven skin tone, and even we can only partially compensate for this – especially if the residue is uneven.

Of course, we do our best with blending, but: clean, even skin is half the battle for a perfect result. Please make sure to exfoliate thoroughly next time! 🧽✨ Our exfoliating glove makes it super easy.

No. If the area underneath is already tanned, the color will be more intense. However, if the skin there is fair (e.g., under a bikini), it cannot become exactly as dark – simply because the underlying skin tone is different. We can optically smooth out the transition – but you won't look completely even everywhere, and that's perfectly normal and natural.

This is because the buttock crease is skin-on-skin (just like the area under the breast). Even if we blend the area cleanly during the spray tan, the color often "wears off" again during the development time due to constant skin contact.

This has NOTHING to do with our technology, but simply with the nature of your body - completely normal.

If you want to even out the lighter area afterward, you can use a self-tanner (e.g., tanning mousse) at home. It's best to apply it selectively with a small brush and let it dry thoroughly, avoiding the skin immediately pressing against the skin. It's best to lie on your stomach, ideally with a pillow under your hips, so that the buttock crease opens slightly and the skin surfaces don't touch each other. Avoid tight clothing, sitting, or moving. And finally: No one looks at your butt crease as closely as you do ;)

The VIP Spray Tan combines several high-performance features such as sweat- and transfer-resistant formulas as well as extended durability in one treatment. Unlike the other options, it combines all the advantages, making it the most reliable choice for important occasions.

The standard spray tan is designed for normal conditions and may fade faster in heat or with sweat. The sweat-proof spray tan is specially formulated to better resist moisture and maintain an even tan for longer – we work with an exclusive formula that clearly differentiates itself from conventional "sweat-proof" solutions offered by other spray tan artists in Switzerland.

Spray Tan Aftercare

It's best to go home immediately after your appointment, avoid physically strenuous activities, and give your skin time to absorb the color.

Any contact with water, whether while cleaning, cooking, or sweating while assembling furniture, can cause the fresh tan to run because the tanning solution has not yet fully absorbed.

The development time can vary between 3-8 hours - depending on the desired tan intensity, the chosen service (standard vs. express) and other factors. Your spray tan artist will tell you when you can shower at each appointment.

The reason: The active ingredients in the tanning solution need time to react with the skin and develop an even tan.

Once you're ready for your first shower – your spray tan artist will tell you exactly when that is, it can vary between 3 to 8 hours depending on the tan level – you should only rinse your skin with clear water – without any shower gel or shampoo. At this stage, the tan is still developing, and products can remove it too much or make it uneven.

From the second shower onwards, you can shower as usual, but it's best to use pH-neutral or as natural as possible products. Avoid heavily fragranced or oily skincare products like those from Rituals or Dove, as they can leave a film on the skin that causes the tan to fade unevenly.

After showering, don't rub, but gently pat yourself dry – otherwise, you'll rub off your tan.

Moisturize well after every shower – even after the very first shower. It is best to use a rich, but oil- and perfume-free moisturizer (no Dove or Rituals products) to keep your skin supple and ensure an even and long-lasting tan.

We recommend youglowgirl products to extend the life of your spray tan as long as possible. Our favorites:
- Body Butter for intensive moisturizing care during the first 7 days – it helps to keep the skin supple and promotes an even fading of the tan (currently sold out).
- Gradual Tanning Lotion to be used from day 7 onwards – it gradually refreshes your tan and thus visibly extends the durability of your spray tan by 30%.

Important: Do not use oils or exfoliants as aftercare.

Well-moisturized skin stays smooth and supple longer, which ensures your tan lasts longer and fades evenly. Therefore, drink enough water – even if it doesn't seem to have anything to do with spray tanning at first glance. Hydration from within is just as important as external care!

You can exercise again after the development period (i.e. after the first shower).

Always rinse your skin briefly with clean water before and after swimming in the ocean or pool. This protects your skin from salt and chlorine, prevents rapid or patchy fading, and helps keep your spray tan even and long-lasting.

Avoid tanning oils—they dissolve the tan and cause patchiness. Instead, use a cream-based sunscreen with SPF, which protects the skin and preserves the tan longer.

We recommend performing hair removal before your spray tan appointment, as shaving or waxing afterwards can strip away the tan and lead to uneven results. If necessary, only shave carefully a few days after your appointment.

Avoid products containing alcohol, fragrances, oils, or strong active ingredients (e.g., peels, perfumes), as they can cause the tan to fade faster.

Bridal

No wedding day look is complete without a trial appointment – neither for hair nor for makeup. Your spray tan should be no exception. Generally speaking: As you gain more experience with spray tans – meaning, if you've had several treatments before – you'll know what's important for preparation and aftercare and can actively avoid common faux pas. Therefore, for your wedding, we recommend the BRIDAL GLOW (incl. 2 Tans) as a minimum preparation.

No worries – we have the solution. Our Bridal Glow Package includes in-house, exclusive formulations that are transfer-resistant and minimize the risk of color transfer, so your dress stays protected.

How to plan correctly:
Trial appointment: approx. 4 weeks before the wedding
Wedding Tan: 2–3 days before

This is not ideal, but we can manage. Please follow our preparation tips very carefully – they are crucial for a beautiful, even result. Also very important: adhere strictly to our aftercare instructions.

Please note, however, that without a trial appointment, there is less room for fine-tuning, meaning we unfortunately cannot adjust the color after the development time.

For bridal groups, we offer individual packages and exclusive time slots just for you, so you can enjoy a relaxed experience together.

Since every group is different, we tailor prices and conditions to group size and effort – please contact us directly: info@youglowgirl.ch

Please note that for bridal group bookings, we require a non-refundable deposit of 20% for definitive appointment confirmation.

We consciously take more time for you: The consultation is more extensive and includes not only the shade, but also individual tips on skincare, timing, and aftercare – all tailored to your wedding. In addition, we use a special Bridal Glow solution for our brides, which minimises rub-off on your white dress, and we also support you with all your questions before and after the appointment. This extra time, expertise, and personal support are reflected in the price.

Generally, yes – you are free to book a standard spray tan. However, please note that we do not offer additional bridal consultation with this option, and our Bridal Glow solution (for minimal transfer) is exclusively included in the Bridal Package.

For your wedding, we specifically recommend the Bridal Glow Package because it provides comprehensive support and helps you avoid common mistakes. While you will receive our professional service with a standard appointment, it does not include the extended support you deserve for your wedding.

We absolutely understand that you have changed your mind. However, there are no refunds for packages that have already been paid for – even if one or both tans are not used. This regulation is part of our booking policy.
